Antiguan Elected to Regional Education Quality Board
Antiguan accreditation officer Lehana Simon has been elected to the board of the Caribbean Area Network for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (CANQATE).
Simon, who serves with the Antigua and Barbuda National Accreditation Board (ABNAB), will help guide the regional body’s efforts to strengthen higher education standards across the Caribbean.
In a statement, ABNAB congratulated Simon, saying her appointment “highlights her commitment to quality assurance” and brings “valuable expertise” to the board.
Established in 2004 and based in Jamaica, CANQATE brings together accreditation agencies, government bodies and tertiary institutions to promote collaboration, mutual recognition of qualifications, and the adoption of international best practices in education.

I pray in Jesus name she has the degrees for the job, and if so, congratulations and fight for quality, the quality that sadly still doesn’t exist in Antigua when it comes to using merit to determine what job and pay a person receives, instead of what political party a person supports and which political party is in office at that time.
Bachelor’s or master’s or PhD in education or law degree (administrative/regulatory) and other social science degrees are material degreees/knowledge for regulatory work. It is called administrative/regulatory law and it would be amazing if the person have experience and or a degree in education, also.
We are in 2025, we have to start making proper decision in the national and international interest. These comments are not meant to harm this young lady, as I do not know her. I am simply speaking in general. She may just be what is needed and have all the required degrees and experience.
