Legal Battle Over Alfa Nero Superyacht Ownership Continues as Trial Proceeds

The Alfa Nero superyacht, which recently departed Antigua and Barbuda, remains at the center of an intense legal dispute over its ownership. The High Court is currently handling two consolidated constitutional cases brought forward by separate claimants, with proceedings intensifying since the trial began yesterday.

Among the claimants is The Flying Dutchman Overseas Limited, which asserts ownership of the vessel.

Another constitutional case has been filed by Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhov, the daughter of Russian oligarch Andrey Guryev, whom U.S. authorities have alleged was the yacht’s original owner.

Four witnesses have been cross-examined since the trial began, including Sport Manager Darwin Telemacque and expert witnesses appearing on behalf of the defendants. The defendants include the Antigua and Barbuda Department of Merchant Shipping, the Port Authority, and the Attorney General’s Chambers.

The trial has drawn significant legal talent, with submissions set to be made by two King’s Counsels and Senior Counsel Anthony Astaphan. Submissions are scheduled for Thursday and Friday this week.

In addition to the consolidated constitutional cases, The Flying Dutchman Overseas Limited has initiated a separate judicial review, which will also be heard on Friday. This legal maneuver seeks to address specific administrative decisions related to the vessel’s status and ownership.

The High Court consolidated the two constitutional matters to streamline the legal process.

The claims brought by The Flying Dutchman Overseas Limited and Yulia Guryeva are being heard simultaneously, focusing on the yacht’s disputed ownership and jurisdictional issues.

Updates on the trial’s developments are expected as submissions and arguments proceed later this week.

  1. Many critical thinking Antiguans begged this government and Gaston Browne not to get involved with the Alpha Nero in the first instance, and now it’s going to cost the already hardworking tax payers an arm and a leg.

Something the country can ill afford.

This be the real concerns for ABLP’S supporters and not the inner machinations of the UPP.

I can guarantee you that this Alpha Nero story will not get anywhere near the same coverage.

    LET’S SEE SHALL WE …

  2. When the 120 million is the repaid to the rightful owners, it should come from ABLP leaders and supporters only because dem “harden”.

  3. That damn Telemaque again up to his crookedness. When they lose this case I hope Gassy will deport him back to Dominica so that the people over there can finally have back their great Crown Jewel.

  4. This matter is now before the Courts and a ruling will be made one way or the other. Our opinions are simply just that. It would be interesting to know what would have been done had there been another administration in control. The general public has the luxury of opinions and commentary. The Government of the day must make decisions and now the court must decide.

  5. Sharon, even you must now admit that the outcry from the majority of Antiguans at the time was not to get involved with property that didn’t belong to us (where you out of the country at the time?).

Again, Sharon you are defending the indefensible. Why?

Just admit that Gaston Browne supporters like you got this particular issue seriously wrong.

NOBODY WILL HOLD IT AGAINST YOU, I THINK …

  6. This is no laughing matter or I told you so situation..but my goodness man, can’t y’all see that we have a totally corrupt government here in place?

What other reason is there for all this push push for the Alpha Nero, other than for them to line their pockets with cash.. I see no other reason at all, none.

And that also goes for the Air Peace deal with Lait 20/20 and also those 1000 immigrants who were masquerade around town like business men, only to disappear in thin air.

We begged,we pleaded to this administration to alter their course of actions, but they went full steam ahead, why?

    Corrupt corrupt government.

How funny that Gatson the Great said the 40mil they made from the sale is already spent.

    What a bunch of liers.

  7. Where has the $40million gone? In somebody’s pocket? Where is the money going to come from when they have to settle the case, out of the taxpayer’s pockets.

  8. How could the sale go on when there is a legal dispute in the courts ? Was there no TRO issued by the court?
