— The Environmental Awareness Group (EAG) is urging residents to remain alert as leatherback sea turtles begin arriving on Antigua and Barbuda’s shores for the 2026 nesting season.
In a social media update, the group announced that leatherback nesting season has officially started and said the territory will soon move closer to its annual peak period. Hawksbill and green sea turtles are also expected to visit local beaches in the coming months.
The organization is calling on the public to report any signs of sea turtle activity, including nesting turtles, exposed eggs, turtle tracks or hatchlings. Sightings can be reported to the EAG office at 462-6236.
Residents and visitors are reminded to keep a safe distance from nesting turtles and to avoid using flash photography at night, as bright lights can disorient the animals.
The group also encouraged the public to spread awareness and support conservation efforts aimed at protecting endangered marine life during the nesting season.
