La’nica Locker, the 2024 NJCAA 200m Indoor Champion, has secured her place in the 2025 Carifta Games in Trinidad and Tobago.
Competing at the UAB Green and Gold Invite in Birmingham, Alabama, she clocked 23.96 seconds, finishing second overall and ranking fourth nationally for junior colleges.
This performance guarantees her spot in the 200m event at the Easter weekend Games.
Locker also placed fourth in the 60m with a time of 7.56 seconds.
The Ottos Comprehensive School alumni joins six other athletes from Antigua and Barbuda, including Dwayne Flemming, who qualified in January.
At the Antigua Barbuda Athletic Association (ABAA) 2nd Development Meet, five athletes secured their Carifta spots.
Ranique Richards, from the Princess Margaret School, qualified in the U17 girls shot put with a throw of 12.47m, surpassing the 11.90m standard. This will be her first Carifta appearance.
Zonique Charles, of the Sir Novelle Richards Academy, also qualified in the U17 girls javelin with a throw of 44.14m, exceeding the 35m standard.
Charles, alongside Richards, is part of the Edus Sports Athletics Group.
Geolyna Dowdye, a four-time Carifta participant, qualified in both the 100m and 200m events, posting times of 11.56s and 23.50s, well under the Carifta standards.
The 2024 100m bronze medalist is looking forward to her final Games.
Tyra Fenton, a double bronze medalist in 2024, secured spots in the U17 girls’ 200m and 400m, with times of 24.17s and 57.35s, respectively.
Kasiya Daley, the 2024 200m national champion and NACAC double gold medalist, qualified in the U20 boys’ 200m with a time of 20.92s, well under the 21.50s qualifying standard. This will be his third Carifta Games.
