  1. Great look for the sport of golf in Antigua, Barbuda & REDONDA!

A…a great outlet for children and youths, as a sporting activity. All public schools must have a golf program, alongside the cricket programs.

B…these Community sporting facilities can easily, incorporate putting greens, sand pits, chipping areas to nets for driving practice.

The gears might seem expensive, maintenance, of these facilities can be problematic (knowing the issues with maintenance of public facilities); but, the investments are worth it, in particular when it comes to the youths.

  2. In the Caribbean golf is just a past time, leisure getting together with friends and club sport. In all my years of watching golf I yet to see an island man on the PGA tour making money, yes we had that guy from Trinidad but Canada is his real home and don’t even mention Puerto Rico or the Virgin island since they are US territory.
The most we can do in these parts is put on our own tournaments, and distribute a few trophies to the winners since monetary awards is illegal. As Golfers to make things interesting we do our own little side wager and collect after adding up our score card but that’s it.
Kemarly my boy, if you are truly serious, work hard and push for a scholarship in the USA, next step is getting on your college team, if you can get this far then you’re on the right track, now this is where you need to shine and put your true skills to the test.
It’s a long road to the PGA tour where millions are made every week so keep it up and let’s do it.

  3. This is great news. My friend Sir Lester Bird must be smiling up there. Seeing that one of his dream has come through when he started the Government run Cedar Valley Spring Golf Course. Many at that time though it was a sport for the elite and that government should not invest into it. But when you go through the Caribbean and compare what Antigua has done to what they have it speaks for itself. We had and still have, only in the Labour Party, people with vision. Vision that span more then a lifetime. Like when Papa Bird said lets get away from sugar and start tourism. And Lester Bird said lets diversify and bring in Offshore Banking and other Offshore Services like Online Gaming. And Gaston Browne said to the UPP in opposition why not try CIP. And today CIP is becoming a main none Tax Revenue earner. And now he also is promoting Entrepreneurial Socialism. Government as the Entrepreneur.

  4. @Carvaa…ask yourself, why do the Asians, in particular, do so well as professional golfers.
Any form of sport is a business, whether you play for fun to professional status, and to make it to the pinnacle in any sport time and money MUST be invested. Anything less, you’re spinning wheels in the mud like the West Indies Senior Men’s Cricket team.
Golf can boost Sport Tourism in the Caribbean tremendously. #Top_Golf has become very popular and once incorporated with such things as fitness centers, they can double as practice and entertainment facilities.

I know, that thinking outside of the box is not something, that we do well but, such are lead boots on a divers feet as flippers.

  5. @Ras.

At least a driving range, that can go a long way in developing your golf game.

But on the same note..I will personally caddie for this young man if he makes it to Reunion golf club, which is 10 minutes from my home.

I myself started playing the game at around 7, and I can tell you that’s it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Golf has so much mental benefits that so many ignore, and I commend this young man for taking up the game and challenging his mental capacity in a tough decipline as golf.
