Karim Edwards will face trial in the High Court for the car crash that reportedly killed 21-year-old medical student Kenneth Mathew two years ago today.

This morning, Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason committed the case to the January assizes, where Edwards will be tried for dangerous driving resulting in Mathew’s death and severe injuries to 19-year-old Priyanjana Das.

Edwards, who remains on bail, had previously attempted to have the case dismissed through a ‘no case’ submission filed by his attorney, Wendel Alexander, but Magistrate Wason ruled that a prima facie case had been made.

The prosecution, led by Paulio Williams, argued that Edwards’ driving was reckless, citing poor visibility and excessive speed as contributing factors. Mathew died from brain trauma a week after the incident, while Das survived but sustained life-altering injuries.

  1. He’s gonna have to live with that for the rest of his life!
That is indeed a tough burden to bear!
    Find a church my brother.

  2. This guy is a well known drunk and now the lawyer saying its reckless driving…..
was a breathalyzer test done? Heard he drove off from the scene too to get lawyer to come back sometime later, for all we know if he had acted differently things may not have been that worse, just saying and what he did is against the law and morally wrong and inhumane.

But this man is a drunken arse and unruly, that is his character, I know him, well known bully who thinks he is above the law.
Hope dem deal him arse just how him deal with those 2 students and other people.
Do for do nuh obeah…..Feel how it feel now, do the crime, do your time.
Cell block 10B waiting on you, Bib Bob and the boyz waiting with the baby oil.

  3. This court case is long overdue; and the downright audacity of Edwards to try to get his dangerous driving dismissed under the dubious term of a “no case” submission.

Doesn’t this just goes to show the callous nature of the man (and remember, this uncaring and cold-hearted individual left them both to die by leaving the scene after mowing them down), and adding insult to the bereaved relatives and severely injured young lady.

I would also look into why this case took so long to come to court. Hopefully, it’s not another scenario of who you know in the upper echelons in Antigua …

  4. I’m willing to bet he’s going to get off. He should have been arrested & charged for leaving the scene! Sometimes, it’s about who you know and what circles you’re in… in 🇦🇬. I remember the rasta father that was arrested and denied bail for his actions; but this guy didn’t even spend one night in lockup. There is definitely a two tier law-enforcement/justice system in 🇦🇬.
