‘Just Say It and It Will Be Done’: PM Tells AT7LU No Need to March
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has assured trade unions that his administration remains fully committed to workers’ welfare and urged them to engage directly with government rather than resort to protests or confrontation.
Speaking at the Antigua Trades and Labour Union’s Labour Day rally on Monday, Browne said that issues raised by the union—including pensions, working conditions, and salary increases—would be resolved without delay.
“All of the concerns that the Antigua Trades and Labour Union has—every single one of them—will be resolved,” he declared.
“So if it is about pension rights, we will make sure that the workers at APUA get their pensions. If it’s about the condition of work, we will make sure that we improve the condition of work for every single public sector worker in this country.”
The Prime Minister emphasised that the Labour Party does not need to be pushed to act in workers’ interests. “You don’t have to convince us.
You don’t have to march against us. You don’t have to advocate. All you have to do is just say it and it will be done, because we are committed,” he said.
He noted that no marches had been held against his administration over salary issues during the past decade.
“To date, there has not been one single march against my administration after 10 years to get an increase in pay,” he said.
Browne reaffirmed the government’s pledge to accelerate collective bargaining negotiations and implement further wage increases.
“We will agree to an increase no later than next year,” he told the crowd, adding that the national minimum wage will also be raised for a third time in just over a decade.
“We want to make sure that workers benefit equally and equitably from the gains of this country,” he said.
“Without the contribution of workers, there would be no Antigua and Barbuda.”
His remarks came during a speech celebrating the alliance between the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party and the AT&LU, which he described as a historic movement of the masses rooted in service and empowerment.

No need to protest and nothing still not happen for people in the country. Browne is so self-centered and focus on the wrong thing he not even seeing how we are suffering in that place.
Honestly, if it were really that simple, workers wouldn’t be marching in the first place.
So why haven’t the issues been addressed before the talk of protest started? Lol come on now Browne
The PM should meet with the AT&LU in good faith—not just throw around grand statements.
Saying “just ask” isn’t enough. because people asking and nothing not working out for them
