A man with a criminal history of robbery has been handed a 30-month prison sentence for attacking and robbing a British pensioner who was enjoying a shore excursion in the nation’s capital.

Junior Emmanuel of Federation Road learned his fate in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court today where Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel imposed the custodial sentence for the brazen daylight robbery that occurred late last year.

The court heard that on the afternoon of November 29, 2025, the elderly UK visitor was exploring the historic streets of St. John’s while her cruise ship prepared for departure when Emmanuel targeted her near the iconic Cathedral Church.

In the attack on Charles Henry Lane, he yanked the woman’s fanny pack from behind with such aggression that she was thrown to the ground as the strap gave way. Emmanuel made off with the bag containing her travel documents, phone, and money—a haul worth approximately $1,400 EC.

Hours later, a passerby discovered the discarded fanny pack and passport and ensured they were returned to the tourist’s vessel. Meanwhile, law enforcement tracked down and arrested Emmanuel that same day.

Emmanuel, whose criminal record shows he is no stranger to robbery offences, will serve two years and six months with time already spent in custody since early December being deducted from his sentence.

  1. any relation to CROIF who called in on Joan show to lash Lovell, Richard Lewis and the WINKKUP pastor ?

  2. Why are these criminals repeatedly released, knowing there is a strong likelihood they will victimize someone again as soon as they are freed?

  3. Need to have a three strike law. Mandatory 30 year incarceration after the third offense. Imprison them until they are no longer a threat but an old person. And upon their release maker sure they are never allowed to participate in civil society again. It is time to end the myth that incarceration is for rehabilitation. You need people who exercise the basic functioning of the human mind to have a hope for rehabilitation these sorts of people are animals and cannot be rehabilitated. They should be shot actually. They serve no purpose um society and are a drain on our resources. It is best we trminate their sorry lives if they keep resorting to crime. Why should we risk our safety and our belongings by allowing people like this to live among us?
