Paris 2024 athletics Olympic champions Letsile Tebogo of Botswana and Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia took home the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) award for best male and female athletes of Paris 2024. The ceremony was held Wednesday (30 October) in Cascais, Portugal.
Two months ago, Tebogo, in the 200m, and Alfred, in the 100m, stormed to historic gold medals in the French capital. Each victory represented the first in Olympic history for their respective nations.
“It means a lot to me to be recognised by ANOC, it motivates me to keep on pushing,” Tebogo told Olympics.com.
Other winners Wednesday included six-time Olympic table tennis champion Ma Long of the People’s Republic of China and New Zealand’s canoeist Lisa Carrington, an eight-time Olympic gold medallist. Both were honoured for outstanding career.
“We are not the big glamourous sport, we still have a huge number of participants across many countries people compete in kayaking,” said Carrington. “I think we can do our sport mort recognised internationally among people.”
