🌪️ Juante Kirby Urges Nation to Be Our Brother’s Keeper as Hurricane Erin Threatens Region

As the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season stirs to life with Tropical Storm Erin intensifying into a hurricane, Differently-Abled Advocate Juante Kirby is calling on the people of Antigua and Barbuda to rise in unity and compassion.

“With Erin’s path threatening several Caribbean islands, we must act—not just with preparedness, but with heart,” Kirby said. “This is the moment to be our brother’s keeper.”

Kirby, emphasized the vulnerability of those who live alone or face mobility and communication challenges.

“Storms don’t discriminate, but our response must be inclusive,” Kirby stated. “We cannot afford to overlook those who may not be able to evacuate themselves, secure their homes, or even call for help.”

He is urging communities, churches, neighborhood groups, and local authorities to:

📋 Check in on differently-abled neighbors and those living alone

🚗 Coordinate transportation for those who need assistance evacuating

📞 Ensure access to emergency communication tools for all

🧭 Include disability-specific needs in shelter planning and relief efforts

Kirby also called on government agencies to prioritize inclusive disaster response protocols and ensure that emergency broadcasts are accessible to all citizens, including those with hearing or visual impairments.

“Let us not wait until tragedy strikes to realize who we’ve left behind,” Kirby said. “Antigua and Barbuda has always been a nation of resilience and love. Let’s prove it again—by showing up for each other.”

As Hurricane Erin approaches, Kirby’s message is clear: preparedness must be paired with compassion. In times of crisis, humanity is our greatest strength.

  1. Commendations to Mr. Kirby for this very timely reminder. Check on the elderly living alone, those who are differently abled who need assistance and offer assistance early. Let us tighten what plans should already be in place. Thank you Mr. Kirby, your selflessness is touching.
