Cassada Gardens Man Granted Bail in Bigamy Case

A 35-year-old Cassada Gardens resident accused of marrying a second time while still legally wed has been released on bail.

Josh Matthias appeared before Magistrate Andrew Mighty this week and was granted bail in the amount of $5,000 with no cash deposit. His release conditions include providing two sureties, surrendering all travel documents, and refraining from contacting the alleged victim.

Police allege that Matthias took part in a wedding ceremony with another woman at Fort James on April 9, 2025, even though he was still married to his first wife. Following an investigation, officers arrested him and charged him with bigamy.

The case has been adjourned until December 17, 2025.

  1. The married men that don’t disclose their marital status to women in order to trick them into relations and relationships should also be charged. Antiguan men are disgusting.

  2. I practice US immigration law. Usually when this happens, the guy assumed or was told by the first wife that she filed for divorce and it was granted. The man believed and proceed to marrying another. In a culture and environment like Antigua, where a substantial amount of the populations can’t read or write properly, or believe everything they hear from others, even others who can’t read, it would be wise to investigate why this occurred in a country that hardly get married.

Also, this is a charge from the police force, which means I am even more skeptical that a proper investigation occurred which require probable cause that the person intended to have multiple wife at the same time.

Even stupidly thinking he can now move on to another woman would be a full defense for this charge.
