Antigua and Barbuda’s young cricket sensation, Jewel Andrew, has secured his place in the West Indies Senior Men’s Team for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka. The series, scheduled to take place from October 20 to 27, 2024, marks a significant milestone in Andrew’s career as he joins the squad for three thrilling matches.

Andrew, a wicketkeeper-batsman, has been making waves with his recent performances, notably with the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Currently representing his country in the Leeward Islands Cricket Board 50 Overs Tournament in St. Kitts, his stellar form has earned him this well-deserved call-up to the senior team.

The Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association shared their excitement about Andrew’s achievement, stating: “Congratulations to our very own Jewel Andrew, the young Antiguan and Barbudan wicketkeeper-batsman, for making it into the Cricket West Indies One Day International (ODI) squad, set to face Sri Lanka in a three-match series from 20 to 27 October 2024.”

The ODI squad, led by Shai Hope as captain and fellow Antiguan Alzarri Joseph serving as vice-captain, will use this series as a stepping stone towards building a formidable team for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2027. Andrew’s inclusion alongside returning stars like Brandon King and Sherfane Rutherford is a testament to his potential and the bright future he holds in West Indies cricket.

The young wicketkeeper-batsman has impressed selectors and fans alike with his talent and work ethic, and this opportunity in the senior team is a major boost for his budding career. Andrew will have the chance to showcase his skills on the international stage, contributing to the West Indies’ efforts to rebuild and strengthen their ODI team.

As the cricketing world eagerly watches the series unfold, Antigua and Barbuda can take pride in seeing one of their own rise through the ranks to represent the region at the highest level.

  1. Congratulations 🎊 to The Jewel in the Andrew Linage. I am so Proud to see someone for the first time with my last name mentioned in Cricket. Your family, Antigua 🇦🇬 and cricketing fans are with you.

  2. Now don’t let too many people be talking into his ears. Just allow him to develop into his own. He is a well disciplined young man , with good head on his shoulders. Showed this by his shot selections.
We can further invest in him by sending him to the best high performance academy the cricketing world has to offer. I will pick Richie Richardson to manage the process- our sport commissioner, with impeccable character.
RIP Abuda Barnes- you started the process and that should always be remembered, especially by Jewel.
