Antigua and Barbuda has welcomed its eighth qualifier for the CARIFTA Games, as rising track star Jevon Simon booked his spot in the prestigious regional event.

Simon, a student at Ottos Comprehensive Secondary School and a member of the Edus Sports/Panthers Track Club, achieved the milestone during the Interschools Athletics Championships on Saturday.

The young quarter-miler clocked an impressive 49.63 seconds in the Boys’ Under-17 400m, dipping below the CARIFTA standard of 49.80 seconds set by the Antigua and Barbuda Athletics Association (ABAA).

The achievement follows Simon’s silver medal performance in the 100m on Friday night, highlighting his versatility and determination on the track. This will be his first appearance at the CARIFTA Games, where he will represent Antigua and Barbuda among the region’s top young athletes.

The CARIFTA Games, known as the premier junior athletics competition in the Caribbean, will see young talents from across the region competing in various track and field events.
