Former Antiguan Footballer Jernya Oscar Laid to Rest
Jernya Oscar, a 23-year-old former national footballer, was buried in Antigua yesterday after a tragic car accident in Florida on December 16. He and two others were fatally struck by a passing vehicle while discussing a minor collision near Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach.
Oscar, a recent graduate of Florida International University, had begun a promising career at Grant Thornton and later as a manager at Amazon. His uncle, MP Anthony Smith, described him as “a humble young man,” and he is remembered for his dedication and talent in football.
His funeral drew a large turnout, including Cabinet members and top officials. In a show of solidarity, the Cabinet briefly convened Wednesday to offer condolences to Smith before adjourning to attend the service.
