A 24-year-old man has been remanded to prison after appearing before the court on a murder charge linked to a fatal stabbing in All Saints last week.
Jermaine Nicholas, of Ovals, All Saints, was brought before the magistrate on Monday in connection with the death of 29-year-old Jahmarley Pierre. He was not granted bail, as magistrates do not have the authority to consider bail in murder cases.
Pierre died after being stabbed near the All Saints traffic lights shortly after 5 p.m. on March 25. Police said the incident followed an altercation with another man. He was taken to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
His killing marked the sixth homicide recorded in Antigua and Barbuda for the year. Hours later, a separate shooting in Villa left two teenagers — 17-year-old Omari Lewis and 18-year-old Brianna Clarke — dead, bringing the national murder toll to eight.
Nicholas is scheduled to return to court on June 3 for committal proceedings.
