Japan will appoint a new ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda as Matsubara Yutaka’s tenure ends on December 10, 2024. During a farewell visit, Ambassador Matsubara met with Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene and Permanent Secretary Ambassador Clarence Pilgrim.

Minister Greene thanked Japan for its longstanding support, highlighting contributions like equipment to address the annual sargassum seaweed problem, which impacts tourism. Matsubara encouraged Antigua to submit funding requests for the 2025 and 2026 Japanese government cycles and noted a Japanese professor’s short course at UWI FIC.

Greene expressed gratitude for the partnership, particularly in blue economy training, and looked forward to continued collaboration with the incoming ambassador.
