A Jamaican national has been remanded in custody after police seized cannabis valued at approximately EC$360,000 during an operation at V.C. Bird International Airport.

Benjamin Isaiah Carrington, 38, was arrested on Sunday following a joint exercise involving the Narcotics Department, the K-9 Unit and the Customs Enforcement Unit. Officers found 19 sealed packages of cannabis weighing 60 pounds in two suitcases in his possession.

Carrington appeared without legal representation before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel. Prosecutors argued that he posed a flight risk, citing the seriousness of the charges and his lack of ties to Antigua and Barbuda. The court ordered that he be remanded.

He faces five charges, including drug trafficking, importation of cannabis, possession with intent to transfer, being concerned in the supply of cannabis and simple possession.

He is due to return to court on 6 May 2026.

  1. Jail him, then deport him, and then trace all those behind this smuggling of drugs that’s causing irreparable harm and rising crimes in this once safe country.

BTW, where’s our Chief Immigration Officer Katrina Yearwood in all of this? What has she got to say in all this?

Another official who’s paid the big bucks to inform us, and take measures to protect our borders.

I don’t get it sometimes with our public servants…

This woman has LESS presence than a ghost or a duppy…

  2. This is exactly why Richard Lewis can never make it with UPP. The HBIC lays down the law and that UPP law states that he married the wrong nationality.

    Poor fella.

  3. He’s the bagman. To break the back of the Kartel and get to the upper tiers importing drugs and other contrabands law enforcement must set sting operations and follow the trails to the distributors.

  4. Brixtonian ,remember when she was asked if any of the deportees from third countries arrived in Antigua from the USA,she didn’t know as the chief immigration officer. The position they are given and not qualified for, is to act as political hacks .

  5. It was NOT A JAMAICAN who shot TESSA BARTHLEY She and her unborn child were snuffed out of this world by the DEPUTY UPP LEADER.. Is he Jamaican ?

  6. But he brave bad to travel with all that weed. Maybe the customs officer that had to let him go thru didn’t go work that day

  7. To the people who are accusing all the commenters of xenophobia, please read the comments again. We hold the Antiguan officials at fault. It’s almost like they don’t want the flow of drugs to stop.

  8. If a smuggler can boldly bring in 60lbs of the ganja, then there must be someone on the inside at the airport and sea ports working for these drug lords!

The amount of drugs that are being smuggled into Antigua, and not one arrest of any of these corrupt high position workers at these post, is alarming.

The Bahamas just snagged a high rank police officer in one of their drug stings a year or so ago, so how come you don’t hear of such high ranking arrest in Antigua?

We all know they are corrupt.. didn’t they put hits on the high ranking customs inspector and the sitting MP Asot?

These were not random hits, these were assassinations to silence these men for what they knew.
Organize crimes are ran and funded by rich well connected people, we all know that..poor people are way too poor to even afford a proper meal, much less have the money and connections to run these major drug operations.

Where are the high profile arrest of Antigua’s drugs and human trafficking rings?
    Huuumm.
Like Brix have said, ” Cran nah nah” from these people in high offices.

Bunch a jokers and crooks in this town.

  9. @ Cherry, stop with the PARANOIA nah, and read the comments again. Pretty please…👍🏾

This has absolutely nothing to do with nationality, but the rise in nefarious activities in Antigua; whether they are homegrown, overseas or dem have one foot!

We’ve been calling out to our authorities for years to do more to curtail these crimes and misdemeanors

  11. the dog catch him before he see his customs officer good dog, narcotics officers needs training, but up the dog, and catch the customs officer also, take him on the outside.

  12. “Caribbean brothers and sisters” at the forefront again. Yet we approach another “Hamnesty” –close to another election-to make illegals, legal. My heart bleeds for my homeland.

  13. Is it unreasonable to believe that the flip-flopper from St. Mary’s South had cold feet and fled the scene left him at the mercy of the police? He should’ve taken the plan to the GPO, seems like immunity is offered there.
