The Jamaica Constabulary Force made a concerning discovery when they seized a sub-machine gun from a seven-year-old on the premises of a school in St. Elizabeth.
The news was shared by the police on their social media accounts on Thursday afternoon.
Superintendent Coleridge Minto, head of the St. Elizabeth police, reported that both the child and a parent have been taken to the Black River police station.

The greatest challenge facing all these Caribbean countries is protecting their borders thereby preventing the continuous pouring in of guns across their porous borders. Until the authorities do more to stop the importation of all these illegal weapons that are most likely coming through our porous borders, we will forever have these issues with illegal guns and crimes perplexing all our islands. Our greatest need as Caribbean nations are securing our borders and nothing we do internally would make a difference until that is done.
Kids are often exposed to illegal guns in several communities and homes across Jamaica. They see the guns all over and for them it’s just another toy. It’s no wonder that a 7 year old would take up what he thought was a toy and take it to school. May God help us all.
