Two men have been jailed for six months after admitting to breaking into a supermarket in St John’s.
Jahbal Grant, 24, of Parham, and Kamory Miller, 29, of Hatton, pleaded guilty to charges of breaking and larceny, as well as resisting arrest and battery on police.
The break-in at TINY Supermarket occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 20 April.
Police said the men stole several cartons of cigarettes, a pack of Blunt, and two boxes of Raw rolling papers.
Officers responded swiftly to reports of suspicious activity and found both men hiding inside the premises.
They reportedly resisted arrest before being taken into custody.
A magistrate sentenced them on Tuesday at St John’s Magistrate’s Court.

Not even one item of food stolen which means it’s not out of a basic need. We keep talking about medicinal needs for things used with these stolen items, however we overlook the many social problems created by it. I can almost bet my life that those who really benefit from supplying the items used with the stolen goods do not use it. 😞
So young and already throwing away their future—sad.
These fellas need guidance. Jail alone won’t fix the root issues.
I’m not saying they shouldn’t face consequences, but I hope this isn’t the end of their story.
If they had jobs or something to look forward to, maybe this wouldn’t happen.
They going and come out jail and do the same thing again because that place is too hard!!
Bet they thought it would be quick and easy. Reality hit hard now.
We have to ask why two young men risked so much for so little. Society needs to dig deeper into why people are turning to crime.
Glad to see law enforcement acted quickly. Businesses need to feel secure, especially small ones like TINY Supermarket.
Cartons of cigarettes and rolling papers… was it really worth it, fellas? Six months is mercy. Choose better next time.
Six months feels light, but at least justice was swift. Hopefully they use the time to reflect and come out with better intentions.
Six months? A guy stayed prison until he died for a cellphone and just 6 months for breaking into a supermarket and stealing valuables?
I’m not saying they shouldn’t face consequences, but I hope this isn’t the end of their story. Jail has no proper surveillance and just like Chinlee they may just be the next
