Island Academy International secured a third consecutive double championship on Friday at the packed YMCA Volleyball Indoor facility, dominating both the male and female finals.

The girls swept Christ the King High School (CKHS) 25-17, 25-18, ending CKHS’s strong run after their semifinal upset over Antigua Girls High School 1.

In the boys’ final, Island Academy overpowered Antigua Grammar School (AGS) 25-19, 25-18 in a competitive showdown.

A day earlier, AGHS 1 beat AGHS 2 for third place in straight sets, while ABICE edged IA 2 in a tight 2-1 battle.

  1. I have it on good authority that all the black kids here are those sponsored by Ambassador Calvin Ayre to attend this school.

  2. Well done to all the kids for their hard work and effort. Ignore the nasty ill informed comments that some trolls can’t help themselves making!

  3. 9x19rugrat… It would seem your “good authority” has their facts rather inaccurate. Is it too, that you are insinuating the black kids on the volleyball team are unable to have wealth or their families pay their school fees? That’s a rather blanket, discriminatory and straight up UNTRUE statement to make there.

As this is to celebrate the children on the team let me not diverse from that topic. Congratulations to all the players, their families and the coach. Irrespective of your background, your hard work and dedication to the game has paid off yet again. A tremendous feat to be proud of.

  4. It’s sad people can’t hide their jealousy and badmind. Go sign up! One of the best schools on island with teachers who are highly trained. If it’s one thing the children are well rounded! Look out for us in all of the above and more!

  5. Imagine we curse Trump amd some here are no better. This is a racially integrated school like all others in Antigua. My son is black and I pay his fees. As is the case of most of the kids. Some have a bursary which is a discount on the fees, usually for single parent children. This is something offered only by this school as far as I am aware. Kudos to them.

  6. @ Racist School – your comments are defamatory and grossly inaccurate. So sad that a story celebrating the achievements of school children has been hijacked by misinformation and prejudice. The comments on this story do not paint Antigua in a very positive light at all. So much small mindedness. SMH

  7. Good that the comments posted by someone under the title Racist School were removed. They were defamatory and wrong and clearly written by someone with a bitter axe to grind.

  8. Well done to both teams! From the first game to the playoffs, I’ve sat in the stands and watched you guys put your best forward. Continue practicing and achieving your goals! Literally! Go I.A!!!!
