Is it true that a Chinese mechanic shop is being built right here in Antigua? Word on the street says yes, and already people are buzzing about what this could mean for local business.
Is it true that Antiguans will flock there once the doors open? Many believe so, pointing out that when it comes to fixing cars, price and service speak louder than anything else. Brothers and sisters from China have set up businesses before, and history shows customers rarely stay away.
Is it true that this signals yet another chapter in the growing Chinese footprint in Antigua and Barbuda? The pattern seems familiar — from supermarkets to construction projects, the presence is becoming harder to miss.
And is it true that, in the end, “everybody haffu eat”? That’s the sentiment making the rounds. Whether it sparks competition or cooperation, one thing is certain: this mechanic shop will not go unnoticed.

Sorry for those p.k selling and b.r business …Chinese love group one way ticket.
If local mechanics were honest, fair, and worked in a timely manner there would be no threat from a new Chinese mechanic shop. Improve or be replaced.
🇦🇬✨ Why Single Out the Chinese? Let’s Look at the Facts.
Some voices are quick to criticize Chinese businesses, but Antigua & Barbuda has benefitted enormously from Chinese partnership. Our airport expansion, the Port of St. John’s upgrade, community centers, and even street lighting were all built with Chinese support. Most recently, China pledged US$14 million for Blue Economy development, an investment directly in our future industries.
Meanwhile, the Arabs operate here, competing with locals at every level, but rarely contribute to national infrastructure or long-term growth. The difference is clear: the Chinese are partners who build, not just compete.
What matters most is fairness. Every foreign investor, whether Chinese, Arab, or otherwise, should be measured by the same yardstick: jobs created, skills transferred, taxes paid, and community benefits delivered. Let’s focus on results, not rhetoric.
🇨🇳 + 🇦🇬 = Partnership that delivers.

There is a Chinese parts store and mechanic shop in Jamaica causing serious economic hardship for traditional jamaican business.
I agree the mechanics here are too thief and behave entitled .. they also do a lot of guess work at your expense… and about the Arabs I agree they hardly patronize local businesses, they only look out for they own, and if they help you, just know they want something in return… anyway if it’s ture… I’ll be going there for sure … I’m tired of these dishonest
Mechanics….
This protest must be coming straight from the camp of Ali Baba and his “forty” thieves! They saw nothing wrong when their thieves, almost overnight, took over exclusive operation of tire sales and services here in Antigua. All over Antgua – town and country (in practically every village) it is Ali Baba and his forty thieves that dominate . Not a drum was sounded.. Now that they fear that there will be a loosening of their control of the tire market, they try to incite Antiguans and Barbudans with their fearmongering. Ignore them! They have nothing to show after years of exploiting and dominating key areaa of our economic development.. The only reason that mention is made of Stanley’s Chinese Restaurant on OLD PARHAM ROAD is the fact that this well-established restaurant continues to be a thorn in Ali Baba’s flesh since it effectively BLOCKS their planned efforts to convert the OLD PARHAM ROAD in their exclusive zone just as they once did with Market Street in years gone by. Stanley, stand your ground! Too Ranking, stand your ground!” ALL OTHER BLACK-OWNED/OPERATED businesses on the OLD PARHAM ROAD, stand your ground! No Gaza Strip on the OLD Parham Road!!!
Why is Ali Baba trying to foment unnecessary racial strife here. Did Ali Baba protest when his forty thieves almost overnight took control of nearly every single Tyre sales and repair shops in Antigua??? So what’s the beef with a Chinese vehicle plant here on Antigua. Is it because a certain Chinese establishment – Stanley’s – refuses to allow a total economic domination of the Old Parham Road, from top to bottom and going into Pigotts as well by Ali Baba and his gang of “forty” thieves? Heck, they already control hardware stores, tyre-repair and sales, major furniture outlets, at least one major restaurant, supermarkets, fast,-food outlets, office rentals and many more. Top Ranking, stand your ground, Antigua Motors stand your ground, all other black-owned/operated businesses on Old Parham Road especially, stand your ground! No Gaza Strip for Antigua and Barbuda!
Antigua need advance mechanic shops like the develop countries, a transmission repair shop with body valve cleaner and other things.
Not supporting Antiguan mechanics been put out of business, because they lack proper structure and equipment they bluff their customers.
But all mechanics here is at fault, during the UPP time in office, the hon. Wilmoth Daniel built the transport board office at Herberts, do you know it has all the computerized equipment for transmission test with body valve cleaning machine like in Puerto Rico and everything for big semi truck repairs?
What happen ALP won in 2014 and lock down all the progress that could have helped develop young minds, right there in transport board at Herberts is the most advanced mechanic shop built by the UPP under the Baldwin Spencer administration.
So the opportunity to grow Antigua skill level was stymied by ALP politics the same way they did when George Walter PLM administration built all the schools, and they even took advantage of Antigua girls high school and grammar school, loyal supporters go to there labor party politicians and ask for there children to be placed in these schools even though they haven’t met the standards, I could remember upon been admitted to Antigua state college, the first day of acceptance at the auditorium, dr.francis drop a remark that we are not there because we are qualified, but because they accept us, so sometimes you see how the civil service is been run, don’t feel bad because you are a school drop out, you may be well intelligent than those you see running this countries affairs, that’s why we are in this dilemma, we have entitlement clique by family and political connection all over government services, the APUA is one example, where an engineer as manager fail to keep the asset of the company functional, like the power station and water etc.
If the mechanics in Antigua had want progress, some of them as voters would have voted against this bad mind of different party coming to office without a development plan and destroy what ever tax dollars spent on projects for the people benefit , those equipment at transport board will rot, just as how you see they leave the car par park, and the new airport built by UPP administration was quickly name on the plaque that Gaston built it, no wonder he don’t care and up at the airport a lots of things not working, so now to the Chinese ,if they bring the same specialize equipment to offer mechanical services, it’s the ALP and Gaston and the Antiguan voters fault.
Competition is good for progress! When you go to the local mechanic shop before entering he has about fifty to a hundred cars parked on the opposite lot in his yard down the streets and all in the bushes he can find this says so much to his abilities to fix yours because yours soon once he starts working on it is left for parts and becomes unfished run like hell from all of them because it speaks to their abilities to do excellent work on our vehicles this needs to stop so Chinese or Africans or whoever is welcome once they can do the work and charge me reasonably why quarrel drive around and when you see parked cars at mechanic shops on the streets and opposite lots in bushes run like hell because most of them or fakes and the government needs to step in and remove most of these old cars that are parked on our streets and in bushes on their expense as we speak there is a burnt stripped cars on the back road leading to Parham Town for months now its posses as an accident waiting to happen at nights its right on your face please remove it before some one looses their lives
@Faithful National #1 – Good info. We must remember our history. The arabs have largely gone under the radar. If we so believe in local businesses then let’s patronize them. Money where your mouth is.
