Integrity Commission Under Fire in U.S. Report on Antigua and Barbuda
Antigua and Barbuda’s Integrity Commission is facing renewed scrutiny after a U.S. government report highlighted its struggles to enforce anti-corruption laws despite being the only agency tasked with the job.
The 2025 Investment Climate Statement, released in September by the U.S. Department of State, said the commission is independent but “understaffed and under-resourced,” leaving it unable to fully investigate complaints or enforce the Integrity in Public Life Act.
That law requires all public officials to disclose their income, assets — including those of spouses and children — and gifts received while in office.
The commission, appointed by the governor general, is responsible for probing noncompliance and violations of both the Integrity Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The report noted that allegations of corruption are common, with both major political parties frequently accusing the other, but “investigations yield few results.” Critics told U.S. officials that the Integrity Act is inadequately enforced and should be strengthened.
The State Department also flagged shortcomings in the country’s Freedom of Information Act, which grants citizens the right to request government documents.
In practice, it said, residents often struggle to obtain records, a problem attributed to funding constraints rather than deliberate obstruction.
Antigua and Barbuda is party to the Inter-American Convention against Corruption and the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).
The government says it applies criminal penalties when corruption is proven, but the report concluded that enforcement remains weak.

I just hope this is a wake up call for us. Integrity in public life is something that we have taken lightly and for granted in Antigua and Barbuda. Public officials have amassed fortunes that they have not been able to properly account for, wey over and beyond what their monthly salary allow and no one here seem to care or be bothered. The public bodies set up to monitor, investigate and inspect these issues are toothless, flat and ineffective so public officials feathering their own nest have become the norm. Public office seem to be the road to wealth, abundance and riches.

“Integrity Commission” and “US” being used in the same sentence must be a joke, a farce, an error- propaganda designed to make the ignorant, faint of heart, yellow-bellies like “Oddly Speaking” run for cover against the mighty USA! When the US begins to demonstrate the slightest inkling of the term ‘integrity’ then maybe, just maybe they can be allowed and inkling of attention and respect . Until then, they should just STFU!

Allen Stanford once own Antigua, and many of his buildings and assets are still been hidden or sort after.
No matter what people like “faithful nation #1” says, we all know Gatson Browne and co didn’t get their riches from no damn hard work or investment. Most came from kickbacks. Facts!
Look at the nepotism in his family…wife set up, sons set up, living high on the hog since he has taken office. Giving government contracts to those you know or in your immediate family is as corrupt as it gets,and Gatson Browne is well known for doing that. That’s how he gets his votes..a sales man that comes with trinkets dangling..right out of the Ponzi scheme playbook.
The man is a swindler, just like his teacher Allen Stanford. He is as cocky as Allen as well.
So the message is on point…that’s what we need to start paying attention to. Stamp out corruption in the Caribbean. The people suffer under slavery,and are now suffering under their own color.
