Inquest hears scream, limited checks before Chinlee Robinson’s death

A coroner’s inquest on Friday heard stark evidence surrounding the death of Chinlee Robinson, 23, who died at His Majesty’s Prison on Jan. 24, hours after bail was granted.

Medical findings list anoxia, neck trauma and cardiac failure.

A 15-year-old detainee testified that Robinson returned from court visibly upset over a bail issue and that, later that night, he heard a brief scream followed by silence. The teen also said inmates were locked in cells by mid-afternoon and that overnight checks were rare.

The death remains disputed. Family lawyer Wendel Alexander is calling for a homicide investigation, while police have previously pointed to possible natural causes. Prison Superintendent Trevor Pennyfeather has said the death may have involved strangulation.

The inquest continues Friday.

  1. Similar scream 😱 like the one Tessa gave before the coward took her life??

  2. It clear this that any reasonable person or police or prosecutor would find this death highly suspicious prior to medical confirmation and order an investigation by competent investigators (not sure where they will find that in Antigua). But the death in government custody would also make it mandatory, for an investigation.

I am telling you, that place, Antigua, and incompetence, scare me and angers me. I can not see suffering and wrongs and not feel that pain in my heart. I can’t be like those others who sit back and do nothing at all, nothing sufficient.
