In an emotionally charged address to Parliament yesterday, Works Minister Maria Browne shed light on two workplace incidents that left government employees injured earlier this year.
The Minister began by recounting the shocking events – a workshop accident and a quarry explosion that resulted in severe burns to a dedicated staff member.
Despite the distressing nature of the incidents, Minister Browne conveyed her gratitude that both individuals have made remarkable recoveries.
“Happy to say, though, that both individuals have recovered pretty well,” Minister Browne shared with a sense of relief. She extended her appreciation to the cabinet for promptly authorizing the allocation of funds to secure medical assistance, emphasizing the crucial role this support played in the employees’ healing journey.
The Works Minister went on to express her heartfelt thanks to all involved parties for their efforts in assisting the injured workers.
“We were there to assist them in every way that we could,” she affirmed, highlighting the commitment of the government to prioritize the well-being of its employees in times of adversity.
“So far, everything has been going well, and one of them is due to return to work pretty soon,” she announced with a sense of optimism.
In light of these incidents, Minister Browne stressed the need for a renewed focus on health and safety within government operations.
While proposing enhanced safety measures and the creation of a dedicated health and safety managerial position, her emphasis remained on preventing such incidents in the future and ensuring the well-being of government workers.
