India Awaits Proposals On How To Use US $1 Million Grant On Antigua

Following the announcement of a grant funding last September at the first ever India – CARICOM Summit, India is anticipating community development project proposals from government officials.

According to India’s High Commissioner to the country, Dr K J Srinivasa, this grant of US $1 million could be beneficial to many communities on the island and is hoping to receive proposals as soon as possible.

“We defined them as quick impact community development projects, wherein the community will benefit from them immediately. It could be building of schools, hospitals or improving the sports facilities or gender balance improvement or anything of that sort,” explained Dr Srinivasa.

During his visit to the island last week, the Indian diplomat made courtesy calls to several government ministers.

India has also pledged US $10 million in lines of credit for the implementation of solar and other renewable energy programs under the Climate Change Prevention Programme.
