In Letter to Trump, Browne Urges Diplomacy to Avert Tensions in Caribbean Waters

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has written to U.S. President Donald J. Trump urging renewed diplomatic engagement with Venezuela amid what he described as a growing military build-up in international waters shared by Caribbean states.

In the letter, Browne said Caribbean nations have long upheld their identity as a “Zone of Peace,” calling the region one of the few remaining places where stability offers relief from global volatility.

He warned that small island economies — especially those dependent on tourism — are acutely vulnerable to geopolitical tension. Browne wrote that “a hint of armed confrontation in our waters reverberates instantly through hotel bookings, airlines, foreign investment, and the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of families,” adding that military action near the region could cast “a long shadow” over its primary economic engine.

Browne urged Trump to “follow your instincts which, as far as I have seen, are rooted in dialogue and negotiation,” noting that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has signaled readiness for direct talks. Diplomacy, he wrote, “delivers fewer sorrows than the alternatives.”

  1. Well done, Hon. PM. I hope it is well received and the advice followed. The last thing we want in our territories is a war between those two nations, especially since we heavily depend on them for their resources.

  2. A Real Leader. But in another post I called upon CARICOM to take that lead and fight heard with the USA to avoid WAR in our region. We should not underestimate what the consequences could be for us here in the Caribbean. We are very vulnerable when it comes to our economies and America will not give us grants. CARICOM should send a team of diplomats to CARACAS and to Washington and they should work very hard until cooler heads prevail. We do not need the War Lords to have their way in our region.

  3. Lol. This man actually thinks he’s some peace maker..lol
You do not have the temperament for a peace maker GB, you are no “Mother Teresa”, so you better line up with the US quick and fast.

Maduro must go, so save your breath. He won’t survive past the year probably, and the Venezuelan people would be more the better for it.

Ask Maduro to take some responsibility for his actions and ask him to step down. That’s what a real leader will do, but I know you don’t have that type of gile in you, so you straddle the line trying to play ” peace maker”.

Is it only the national hero’s like Viv you have your bullying tactics for?

But I know your too egotistical to listen to wisdom, so Antiguan will be in for it for the next three years of your reign.

  4. @Patriot.
You are acting like Venezuela will die if Maduro is removed..in fact the people of Venezuela will be way better for it.

Stop showing blind loyalty whole missing the entire point of this military offensive.

Maduro must go..70% of Venezuela voted him out.

  5. It’s not gonna work Maduro has already made up his mind he doesn’t wanna give up the sweet taste of ultimate power.. If you ever watched Marvel Comics Avengers when Thanos the the Alien Titan for how hands on the infinity stones he would never give them up without a fight….

  6. Letter to Trump?!?

If there’s a time for Browne to “dance abroad” this is it!

Here’s a man who love to fly here there and everywhere on the taxpayers dollar given the opportunity; and Gaston Browne talking about “Letter!!!”.

And remember, the US still owes Antigua money over our online gambling court case win from way back when. This in itself should make Browne pick-up he suitcases and talk to Trump man to man.

DANCE ABROAD WID TRUMP NAH BOSS

  7. Gaston Browne, now you’re going to experience who the real world 🌎 boss is. The U.S. President has disregarded your letter in the garbage, who are you small islanders telling me how to run my military affairs. What I want from Venezuela I will get!

  8. At the end of the day, Antigua must protect Antigua. If instability in these waters threatens our economy, then our leaders have every right to speak up loudly

  9. Gaston Browne writing Trump is fine, but I hope he’s also engaging Maduro directly. The region needs to push BOTH sides toward dialogue, not only one.
