The Department of Immigration has dismissed social media claims about an engagement it hosted with members of the Dominican Republic community in Antigua and Barbuda, calling the meeting successful and well-attended.
Officials at the event included Acting Prime Minister Sir Steadroy Benjamin, Dominican Republic Ambassador Yolanda Alexandra Victoria, Consul General Joaquín Díaz López, Chief Immigration Officer Katrina Yearwood, and other senior officials.
The department confirmed that enhanced security measures were in place due to the attendance of high-ranking government and diplomatic representatives, describing them as consistent with international best practices.
It denied suggestions that checkpoints caused discomfort or that attendees were asked to present passports for entry. The department said all security procedures were applied uniformly and professionally.
No complaints were received from Dominican Republic representatives, who also addressed the meeting. (Source: POINTE XPRESS)
