The International Monetary Fund says Antigua & Barbuda’s economy looks set to experience a slowdown in growth and debt levels continue on a downward trend in 2025.

The IMF says Antigua & Barbuda’s real GDP growth is expected to slow to 3.5 per cent in 2025, down from the 5.8 per cent, projected for 2024.

This places Antigua & Barbuda behind several other Eastern Caribbean states, such as Grenada, Dominica, St Vincent & The Grenadines, and St Kitts- Nevis.

Guyana continues to lead the region with a projected growth rate of 14.4% for 2025.

That country’s trade balance is also projected to improve slightly, with the trade deficit expected to narrow from 10.5% of GDP in 2024 to 9.8% in 2025.

  1. I am awaiting this Administration’s spin on the statement by the IMF. The IMF would be dead wrong. For Gaston Browne would be borrowing Antigua and Barbuda out of DEBT and into DEATH.

  2. Yes..we await the PM’s spin. The fact is the economy is stagnating. GDP is barely what it was before COVID. This incompetent and useless Government has no plan to grow and diversify the economy. We are as fragile and backward as ever. And just look at our infrastructure!!!..the Government after umpteen years still cannot solve a problem as basic as the water situation. Large parts of Antigua look like a slum..Look at the town of St. Johns. All this just reflects a Government of failure..hot air and empty promises..economic powerhouse?..will never happen under this Government..

  3. And this one little Rothschild family banking acronym IMF think they should supervise the little black people, they insist that we are their colonial project to this day , the give great GDP figures if white monopoly capital foreign businesses can extract wealth from our labor or resources, they don’t give a damn about how much people sells roast corn at the side of the roads or barber cut hair, Kentucky chicken and white own hotels or acquiring of real estate like PLH has done in selling Barbuda lands, so must we join to celebrate white monopoly capital domination to the detriment of small local business, oops! Our politicians are lazy and love white supervision.

I gather some will miss the fact that for 2024, A&B growth will again be among the highest in the region. Fact is the average projected growth for Latin America and the Caribbean is 1.9 percent yet IMF expects at least 5.8 percent for A&B. IMF tends to be conservative with their projections since in the past we have practically doubled their initial projections. With the projects planned for 2025 , , there is no doubt that A&B growth will again exceed the IMF projections. The major reason is we have a captain who not only knows how to turn the plane on, he actually gets it off the ground, and safely to its desired destination. He is not like HL, who while FM, only produced one year which showed growth (about 3 percent in 2012)
