Hurricane Lee Poses Threat to Lesser Antilles as it Strengthens

NHC – The National Hurricane Center in Miami, FL, issued Advisory Number 8 for Hurricane Lee at 500 AM AST on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

Lee, currently located at 16.1N 48.6W, approximately 965 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands, boasts maximum sustained winds of 80 MPH, with further intensification expected.

Its west-northwest trajectory at 13 MPH is predicted to continue through Friday, slowing over the weekend.

No coastal watches or warnings are in effect, but interests in the northern Leeward Islands are urged to monitor Lee’s progress.

The storm’s impact includes large swells threatening the Lesser Antilles, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico throughout the weekend, posing potential life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
