The storm, currently positioned at 16.9N latitude and 51.3W longitude, threatens the Northern Leeward Islands, located approximately 780 miles east. Lee is moving west-northwest at 15 mph but is expected to gradually slow.
While fluctuations in intensity are likely, the hurricane is projected to remain a potent major hurricane.
Coastal regions in the Caribbean, including the Lesser Antilles, British and U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, the Bahamas, and Bermuda, face life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
The U.S. East Coast should also prepare for these hazards beginning Sunday.
