Gender-Based Violence walk

Hundreds of people gathered at the Botanical Gardens this weekend to mark International Women’s Day by taking part in a 5K walk aimed at raising awareness about gender-based violence.

The event, titled Men & Women United 2026: Stop Gender-Based Violence 5K Walk, was organised by Integrated Health Outreach in partnership with the Directorate of Gender Affairs.

Now in its third year, the walk has continued to grow, drawing large crowds dressed in orange — the colour widely used to symbolise the fight against violence against women.

Many participants wore shirts carrying the message “A Shelter Is A Must”, highlighting calls for the establishment of a dedicated safe house for women experiencing violence in Antigua and Barbuda.

Telecommunications company Flow was among the sponsors supporting the event.

  1. There are those of us who, for health reasons, cannot participate in these activities but who would want to be a part of joining our voices.
I would suggest holding a forum in which persons like myself, who are physically challenged could attend and participate.
For instance, I would 100% support a safe house for women and another for men, because, men too, can be victims of domestic violence.
I would like to propose that we start small, then build out.
Everything does not have to have a million dollar budget.
See where one can raise awareness without needing large scale advertising. Social media is a good place to start, also a news bulletin raising the awareness, highlighting the stories to show both what success and/or failure looks like.
Involve other NGO’s to guide how, as a non-profit you can Garner funds to begin the project.
    Just a few ideas.

  2. I want to inform everyone that the US government provide crime victins funds (funds for loss wages, medical care, transportation, housing, child support, etcetera) for people (know matter your immigration status) who are victim of qualifying crimes (like domestic violence, rape, assault/battery, false imprisonment, criminal restraints, harassment, etcetera) if the qualifying crime occurred in the US (even while visiting or even if you have no US immigration status). You can even get a green card or crime victim visa that leads to a greencard as a victim of qualifying crimes.

These benefits are available if the crime occurred outside the US but committed by a US government employees. If happened in the US, it doesn’t matter who committed the crime and against who, the person would still qualify.

Contact me, for more information. And let us eliminate violence and victimization by cooperating with law enforcement and applying and accepting the crime victim benefits that is vitally important in getting you out of the victimization.

If you are in the US and are victim of qualifying crimes of abuse contact me. If you WERE in the US but no longer, and was victimized while in the US contact me, even if you are back in Antigua and Barbuda.
