Hotel Workers to Receive Wage Increase in January

Thousands of workers employed at hotels that are signatories to the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) and the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) will benefit from a weekly wage increase of $25.00, effective 1 January 2026.
The adjustment follows several weeks of robust negotiations between the Union and the Hotel Association. This increase marks the second weekly raise of $25.00 obtained for workers under the current three-year Collective Bargaining Agreement which expires on 31 December 2027.
Commenting on the development, ABWU Deputy General Secretary Chester Hughes stated: “The only pathway to a sustainable tourism industry is one where all stakeholders, in particular the workers, share fairly in the prosperity generated by the industry.”

The wage increase applies to workers employed at the following properties:
● Blue Waters
● Carlisle Bay
● Curtain Bluff
● The Inn at English Harbour
● Hawksbill
● Hodges Bay Resort & Spa
● Antigua Village
● Cocobay
● Cocos
● Hermitage Bay
● Siboney Beach Club
● Buccaneer
● Heritage Hotel
● Keyonna Beach Resort
● Admirals Inn
Additional benefits workers enjoy under the current Agreement include increases in the meal allowance (from $15 to $30 per meal); Spread-over Allowance (from $29 to $35 weekly); Graveyard Shift Allowance (from $27 to $35 weekly) and Paternity Leave (extended from 5 days to 7 days).
The Agreement also increases the retirement fund contributions from 2.5% to 3%, providing added financial security for workers during their senior years. Other enhancements to existing benefits include an increase in the compassionate leave to 5 days for parents, spouses or children and 3 days for grandparents and siblings.

What about the big major hotels who are always boasting they the best shame on yourl
Royalton resort n spa can never get better, because they over worked us and under pay us..service charge is bull shit. If you really know the above and beyond us staff goes just to keep that place open , smh! Right now staff just turn up for work n dont care anymore..the PAY is NONSENSE.
Agree a thousand percent…the facility is on the verge of dilapidation, they want us to turn water into wine. The work environment is just poor and we are forced to wear a smile through a mold infested building (which is treated by wiping the mold off the wall and repainting it, which is not getting rid of the problem) and people are getting sick by this. WE ARE BURNT OUT!!!!. Our pay is even ashamed to see the almighty face. Things can improve once the work environment, pay, management etc has also improved.
Despite performing the same roles, local workers especially black people are paid significantly less than their foreign counterparts mostly Caucasian. This salary disparity amounts to covert racism and represents an unacceptable form of discrimination in the workplace. This needs to stop forthwith! There needs to be a union for managers too!
Royalton Resort only pays every two weeks and only pay 1 week service charge. Shift allowance is the lowest. Why should we pay the union the same union dues like all other hotels when they are not negotiating for us like they do for other hotels
More than deserving. No more exploitation of our people.
The government work programs also take home less than 400.00 a week with kids, rent, utilities, don’t talk about food and gas after all please please please increase that or hire us on permanent help is not political is human decency, compassion, move us from the poverty line into stress less mind. Thanks in advance
Any time there is an increase in our salary there is an increase in deduction from our salary. Just wait.
No lie
At least it’s an increase. Some people haven’t seen a raise in years
