An 18-year-old youth, Kahleel Simon, tragically lost his life on Wednesday night, 27th August, in Bolans — on the very day he celebrated his birthday.

While the full details of the incident are still emerging, community reports indicate that Kahleel was being pursued when the tragedy occurred.

Eyewitnesses allege that up to three rounds were fired, and one bullet was even found lodged in a neighbor’s home.

This is a chilling reminder of the danger faced by innocent residents in this densely populated area.

Hon. Kelvin Simon extends his heartfelt condolences to Kahleel’s family, noting that the incident has left the entire Bolans community deeply traumatized.

“As we await an official statement from law enforcement, I must express my concern with the level of force reportedly used during this pursuit,” Simon stated.

“The risks taken in such a highly populated area could easily have resulted in further tragedy. This demands urgent reflection.”

Simon is calling for:

• Enhanced sensitivity training for police officers to ensure greater care in community interactions.

• Safety and trauma-response training for residents, equipping the community to better cope with incidents of this nature.

This tragedy makes it clear that the protection of life, especially the lives of our young people, must guide every decision we make as a community.

  1. I would like to say my condolences to the family and the community. I will not be condemning this young man or the police until facts are gathered and they point to a reasonable conclusion.

I know we are having a horrific time with crime and gun violence in Antigua. I want the police to take reasonable actions to stop this. If the police was acting lawfully, and prudently in this matter, I will applaud them. However, I understand the history of their incompetence and statistics shows they are right 1 in 100. This may be the 1 in 100. I do not know.

The point I am trying to make is, if this young man lost his life in a situation that should not have happened, then I strongly recommend an investigation and criminal charges, if appropriate.

If the officers acted prudently and legally, then I will thank them for their efforts.

I heard it was an officer who did the shooting but I do not know. I would prefer for all of us to wait before we judge. Not because our young men tend to follow the criminal path means this kid was. Not because our officers tends to be highly incompetent means this police, if it was an officer, was the usual incompetent.

I will wait to conclude about the specific events until clear and convincing evidence point me to a reasonable conclusion.

I pray for justice for the decease and for justice for the shooter.

I pray for my village to be comforted in this time and sorry that others are feeling the pain that I am currently feeling in bereavement.

  2. Well said Shugy, not that pretending nonsense from that over inflated you know what. Let’s wait for further details

  3. Hey GB, when I accused your administration of not having one damn clue about crime fighting and education in Antigua, I didn’t mean for you to go s shoot the entire place with your goon officers that seems to be trigger happy.

They already killed Manny and there wasn’t any investigation into that tragedy, so I hope some transparency will be shown in this case.

Again, according to eye witnesses, the suspect was fleeing, so let’s see if there is any justification for this murde

  4. The Alfa Nero is back in the news and this time, they are expecting to get close to a half a billion ec dollars. Do you know if any local person benefitted from the original purchase? How about telling us if anyone here is going to cash-in on this sale?
