As the Christmas season approaches, communities across Antigua and Barbuda eagerly anticipate a hallmark of the holiday season—the vibrant constituency Christmas parties and the cherished distribution of hams and turkeys by the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP). While this long-standing tradition has come under criticism from the United Progressive Party (UPP), the ABLP remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering generosity, and the true spirit of Christmas within every constituency.

These events are not just celebrations—they are a demonstration of the ABLP’s dedication to community development and support. By hosting Christmas parties, the ABLP creates a space for constituents to come together, share joy, and build bonds that transcend political lines. These gatherings provide opportunities for constituents to connect and for individuals to feel a sense of belonging and togetherness, which are vital during the holiday season.

The distribution of hams and turkeys is another cherished tradition that reflects the ABLP’s philosophy of compassion and care for all citizens. For many families, this gesture ensures a brighter Christmas table. It is a small but meaningful way to share the blessings of the season and ensure that no one is left behind.

Critics may argue that these traditions are superficial or unnecessary, but their impact is profound. The ABLP recognizes that Christmas is a time to uplift spirits, bridge divides, and remind every citizen of their inherent worth and importance within the community. These initiatives are not about politics—they are about people, and the enduring commitment to ensuring that every home feels the warmth and joy of the season.

The UPP’s ridicule of these efforts highlights a fundamental difference in priorities. Where the ABLP sees the importance of togetherness, community, and generosity, the UPP chooses to dismiss these values. Nevertheless, we the members of the ABLP remain undeterred, understanding that the true essence of leadership is serving the people and enriching their lives.

As we celebrate another festive season, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party proudly continues this cherished tradition, knowing that its value is evident in the smiles of children, the gratitude of families, and the strengthened bonds within our communities. After all, Christmas is about love, unity, and giving—and these principles will always remain at the heart of the ABLP’s mission.

    WELL SAID!

  2. Just a simple question to Daryll and his colleagues. Where did the funds spent on hosting those Christmas parties come from? Was it personal funds or from the treasury of Antigua and Barbuda?

    • definitely from the “4 billion in the belly of the plane” that UPP peddled last election. You don’t see how the FBI swooped in and drag gaston our he house just like the UPP said?? He can never set foot in Antigua again. UPP is credible….very credible.

  3. Indeed. Celebrating the birth of Christ is not political in any way shape or form. It is about our communities and our shared humanity. Our political persuasion can never keep us apart in Antigua and Barbuda.
