Holberton Campus to Become Antigua’s ‘Health Village’
The former Holberton site in Antigua is set to be transformed into a modern “health village,” bringing together specialised services to support the country’s main hospital.
Junior Health Minister Senator Michael Joseph outlined the plans on the Browne and Browne Show on Pointe FM, Saturday 6 September 2025, describing the project as part of a wider effort to modernise the nation’s healthcare system.
The campus already houses the Browns Avenue Clinic and will soon provide a temporary home for the new Sickle Cell Centre, while work continues on a permanent facility.
A purpose-built complex for the Care Project, which supports children with severe disabilities, is also nearing completion with backing from the Maria Holder Trust, the Jumbie Bay Fund, Friends of the Care Project, and the government.

Senator Joseph said older buildings with structural weaknesses are being demolished to make way for new state-of-the-art facilities.
A cardiovascular unit and other specialist services are included in the long-term master plan, aimed at easing pressure on the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
“Very shortly, Senior Minister Joseph will be signing the lease for us to move into that entire new state-of-the-art building, and, you know, just so that we can provide that new modern environment for the children that are at the Care Project,” he told listeners.
Officials say the vision is to create a hub where auxiliary health services can be clustered close to the main hospital, ensuring patients have easier access while strengthening Antigua and Barbuda’s healthcare infrastructure for the future.
