The government says it will assist in getting neuro surgeons to Antigua to perform historic neurosurgery at MSJMC.
Two neuro surgeons coming to Antigua from the United Kingdom to assist a medical patient will have their air fare and hotel accommodation paid for by the state.
The information was relayed to the public by Government’s Chief of Staff Lionel Max Hurst.
The surgeons are volunteering their services to assist the patient.
The cabinet made the decision by comparing the cost of dispatching the patients to Trinidad to seek the treatment versus having the surgeons come to Antigua.
In the end, the Cabinet agreed that it makes greater economic sense to fly the doctors into Antigua.
The surgery will take place at the Mount St. John Medical Center (MSJMC).
The facility is no stranger to these types of medical care as the centre had two kidney transplants earlier this year. Also, MSJMC successfully implanted a pacemaker as well.

The government of Antigua and Barbuda should gather statistics on the trends and demands in the job markets and release them to the public. By doing this individuals such as students can adjust or explore varies studies to fill in the gaps of these needed professions. Instead of looking elsewhere to fill in the gaps they should make full use of what we have . The children of today will determine our tomorrow. Most times locals are not aware of what the country is lacking and gravitate to one profession . Over-populating one profession does not benefit the country and a move like importing and sponsoring professionals could just increase economic strain.
However, for the time being it is a suitable decision, but more needs to be done . Congratulations on all the successes thus far. God Bless.
