Grief and disbelief continue to ripple through Antigua and Barbuda’s Hispanic community following the death of 23-year-old Dominican national Michael Alexander Garcia, who died in a farm accident over the weekend.
Residents in the Point area, where Garcia lived, gathered in small groups on Sunday to remember the young father of one. Many described a heavy silence across the neighborhood as friends and acquaintances came to terms with the loss of someone they viewed as ambitious and hardworking.
Garcia had moved to Antigua in search of better opportunities and was known for his strong work ethic and friendly personality. He had been employed at a farm in the Dam Estate area at the time of the fatal accident.
The head of the Spanish community in Antigua said Garcia’s death has deeply affected local Dominican nationals, who have begun organizing support for his relatives and young daughter. Community members have also been visiting his home to offer condolences and assistance.

Residents described the tragedy as a painful reminder of the risks faced by migrant workers and the bonds that unite Antigua’s growing Hispanic community. Memorial arrangements are being planned to honor Garcia’s life and contributions.
