ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for Antigua and Barbuda, the British Virgin Islands, and Anguilla, warning of dangerous surf conditions expected to persist through Thursday.

According to the advisory, moderate long-period swells are generating waves between 6 and 10 feet along northern and north-facing coastlines. The conditions pose risks of life-threatening rip currents, coastal flooding, and beach erosion.

Residents and visitors are urged to avoid affected northern beaches and to swim only in areas supervised by lifeguards or on sheltered southern beaches. The Met Service also advised the public to stay off rocks and jetties due to hazardous surf conditions.
