A high surf advisory has been issued for Antigua and Barbuda, with authorities warning of hazardous seas and life-threatening rip currents in the coming days.
The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service says moderate, long-period swells are expected to generate waves of 6–10 feet (2–3 metres), with occasional higher sets, along the islands’ northern and western coastlines.
Barbuda is forecast to experience dangerous surf from mid-morning Friday until Tuesday morning, while Antigua is expected to be affected from Friday night through Tuesday.

The advisory also covers neighbouring islands in the eastern Caribbean, including the British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Montserrat, and St Kitts and Nevis.
Officials warn of risks including strong rip currents, beach erosion, coastal flooding, and possible damage to property. Beachgoers are urged to exercise extreme caution, avoid rocky coastlines, and swim only where lifeguards are present.
“Given the risks involved, the public should take this advisory seriously and stay updated through official channels,” the Meteorological Service said.
Further information is available on the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service website and social media platforms.
