Hermitage Bay staff raise concerns over pay and benefits

3

Dozens of workers at Hermitage Bay Resort have raised concerns about pay, benefits and the distribution of service charges during a meeting organised by the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU).

Employees called for clearer information on how service charges are handled and expressed hope for a wage increase in 2026 as the ABWU continues negotiations with the Antigua and Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association.

Senior Industrial Relations Officer Kem Riley outlined key provisions of the Collective Agreement, saying informed workers are better equipped to assert their rights.

The union said it will continue similar outreach sessions across the hospitality sector as part of its push to strengthen worker protections and improve conditions.

  1. Good to see workers organizing early. Service charge issues can quietly pile up, so staff raising concerns before peak season is smart.

  2. Them go theif um anyway they don’t lkke to see black people making money!! This is why these hoteliers like to set up hotels in our region they get away with too much to the disadvantage of the employees that work so hard. Im also very concerned about the way they pay black vs white in certain managerial positions its very unfair.

  3. @ covert racism facts these white managers like to throw shade and make comments about what blacksstaff drive and wear like we didn’t work hard for it!
