“To commemorate World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2024, the Trafficking in Persons (Prevention) Unit in the Ministry of Public Safety and Labour, sought to raise awareness of human trafficking in the workplace.
Employees of the Ministry of Public Safety and Labour traded their traditional work attire for Tee shirts emblazoned with a “July 30, World Day Against Trafficking in Persons” image printed on the front, and the Trafficking in Persons (Prevention) Unit’s logo on the back.
Throughout the day, the message of #endhumantrafficking could be clearly seen as staff members carried out their duties and traversed the streets of St. John’s.
In 2013, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/68/192 and designated July 30 as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.
This resolution declared that such a day was necessary to “raise awareness of the situation of victims of human trafficking and for the promotion and protection of their rights.
This year’s theme, “Leave No Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking” underscores the global campaign for World Day Against Trafficking in Persons and urges action to end child trafficking as children represent a significant proportion of trafficking victims worldwide.
The Trafficking in Persons (Prevention) Unit continue to spearhead Antigua and Barbuda’s activities to combat human trafficking trough the 4Ps approach:
– Prevention (including demand reduction) by means of training, education, & proactive screening.
– Prosecution of offenders.
– Protection of victims of trafficking.
– Partnership with national, regional, and international counterparts, NGO’s, etc.
