Hell’s Gate Steel Orchestra has been named Steel Band of the Year at the National Music Awards, emerging as the top band ahead of fellow finalists Pandemonium Steel Orchestra and Rising Star Steel Orchestra.
The award recognizes excellence in steel pan performance and contributions to Antigua and Barbuda’s steel band movement.
Accepting the award on behalf of the band, a representative noted that the recognition came during a milestone year for the organization.
“In 2025, the Caribbean Union Bank Hell’s Gate Steel Orchestra celebrated its 80th year of musical excellence and stewardship,” he said.
He added that the year-long celebration reflected both the band’s achievements and the contributions of those who helped build its legacy.
“We started and ended the year giving praise to God, and everything in between was just a celebration of what we have accomplished for 80 years,” he said. “Giving thanks to those who have gone before us and honoring our current members as we continue celebrating Hell’s Gate.”
Hell’s Gate Steel Orchestra is widely regarded as one of Antigua and Barbuda’s most historic steel bands and remains a central figure in the country’s steel pan tradition.
The Steel Band of the Year category formed part of the National Music Awards ceremony celebrating musicians, bands, producers and entertainment professionals contributing to the growth of Antigua and Barbuda’s music industry.
