(PRESS RELEASE)
The Ministry of Health Wellness and the Environment is deeply concerned about the recent allegations in the public domain relative to the services at the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre.
In this regard, the Minister of Health, the Honourable Molwyn Joseph has requested that medical personnel at the hospital immediately hold a press conference to respond to the allegations.
The Minister wishes to reassure the general public that all necessary measures will be taken by the government of Antigua and Barbuda to ensure the continued safety of all patients at the institution.

This is a serious issue and needs immediate attention. Phototheraphy light is administered to babies that are born with jaundice. This is quite common. However, the distance between the light (phototheraphy) and the jaundiced baby should be carefully monitored because the lights (ultra violet lights) can be extremely damaging to the eyes (retina) and the body tissue. This is exactly what happened as seen in the pics that were distributed. The lights were too hot and too close to the babies and actually roast them. Sad indeed! I am just wondering if there are other ways of treating jaundice because parents are going to be very skeptical of this nowadays. The procedure must be modernized if possible.
