Health and the Environment Minister Molwyn Joseph announced that an additional four Polyclinics are coming on board across Antigua and Barbuda, bringing the total number of planned Polyclinics to six.
Minister Joseph delivered the news today while handing over three modern Tuttnauer Autoclave-Steam Sterilizer Machines to the Bolans, Jennings and Bendals Community Clinics.
It was at his last stop in Bendals where the Member of Parliament for the area made the declaration, stating that the plan for the additional four Clinics is to relieve some of the pressure on the Mount St John Medical Center.
In addition to the original two which are slated to be built later this year in Villa and Willikies-Glanvilles areas, Minister Joseph outlined where the four new additions will be placed.
“We are strategically locating Polyclinics in areas where there is a long distance from the Communities to the Mount St John Hospital. There are four more and if I remember clearly the All Saints Clinic will be upgraded to a Polyclinic, there will be one on Grays Farm, and there will be one in Jennings for the Southern Corridor of Antigua and Barbuda and there is another one”, Minister Joseph declared.
When questioned further, he disclosed that the fourth location that was earmarked for a Polyclinic was Clare Hall.
Minister Joseph also announced that the Bendals Community itself will be the beneficiary of a brand new facility with all the amenities that are available for a first class health clinic. He said that the land for that project has already been sourced.
“We have acquired a piece of land, government land, not far from where we will build a brand new clinic for the community of Bendals. The land is in place and so we will build a clinic that has more room and the bottom line is that it is good news and we the Ministry of Health has the largest budget of one hundred and six million dollars”, Joseph declared.
