Today, as the world reflects on the passing of Giorgio Armani, I recall a unique moment when Antigua quietly became part of his story.

In November 2006, π˜Όπ™§π™˜π™π™žπ™©π™šπ™˜π™©π™ͺ𝙧𝙖𝙑 π˜Ώπ™žπ™œπ™šπ™¨π™© featured Armani’s retreat here in Antiguaβ€”a sanctuary of light, air and understated elegance. At the time, I was serving as Minister of Tourism, and it was deeply meaningful to see our island highlighted not just as a destination, but as a place that inspired one of the world’s greatest designers.

I was honored to meet Mr. Armani, to be invited into his home, and to hear firsthand why Antigua meant so much to him. He often said that the essence of Antiguaβ€”its natural beauty, calm spirit, and effortless charmβ€”aligned perfectly with his own sense of elegance. That is why he chose our island as his retreat.

His villas, named π™π™‘π™€π™¬π™šπ™§ and π™Žπ™šπ™§π™šπ™£π™–, were more than vacation homes. They embodied his philosophy of simplicity, grace, and harmony with natureβ€”qualities that resonated deeply with our own spirit. In this retreat, Armani crafted more than architectureβ€”he offered a pause, a haven. Today, it stands as a testament to his quiet elegance and his belief in harmony between design and nature.

His passing reminds us that true legacy is not only in the clothes he designed or the red carpets he defined, but also in the quiet spaces he created for reflection and renewal. I am proud that Antigua was part of that legacy.

In his words, β€œElegance is not about being noticed, it’s about being remembered!” May he rest in peace and may our nation forever be uplifted by the timeless elegance he found in Antiguaβ€”a quality that will continue to draw visitors from around the world to our shores.

  1. Was that picture taken the day of his death?
I want to believe is or shortly before his death.
I do nkt know the gentleman.
However the captain doesn’t look a day older in reality than when the picture was taken.
Whats even more interesting is that the captain is not a fan of stem cell.
    Long live Captain Harold Lovell!!!!!!

  2. Very, very nice words, nice picture, but gosh jack, focus on wha you have to do here.

That is definitely an old photo taken during the scalding, sun stroke days of the WICKED SUNSHINE GOVERNMENT.

Limpy Joe IMF Pimp is old and washed up

  5. Dear Antigua Newsroom,

Do you know you could put up any picture of the Honourable Harold Lovell, without any headlines, subtext, captions or articles, NOTHING at all, and then sit back and watch the ABLP, and there supporters implode and lose their minds over him.

The return of Mr Lovell in the last few weeks or so to help propell the UPP forward once again has triggered something UGLY and UNGODLY that doesn’t surprise those of us who’ve witnessed their past ignorant and ill-mannered behavior against a very viable and steadfast opposition returnee.

Just put up a photo of him on ANR and witness their turmoil, tumult and political STRAMASH.

    Respectfully

Lovell has LOST MORE ELECTIONS THAN any other politician in the universe

  7. The Jonathan mess shows the lack of readiness and strong leadership in the UPP. Senator Pearl was on the ball when she said Jonathan missed the class. The Jonathan matter was a big joke and he making the media rounds to correct his mess really did not help.

  8. The hatred of Mr. Lovell is quite dumbfounding. Even in opposition and inspite of them stealing his seat to make him a looser they still hate him.
