Harold Lovell Confirms He Will Not Run in All Saints West, Opts for Mentorship Role
Harold Lovell, former political leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), has responded to widespread calls for him to come out of retirement and contest the All Saints West constituency in the upcoming election.
Lovell, who resides in All Saints West, acknowledged the overwhelming support he has received from constituents, both locally and abroad, urging him to throw his hat back into the ring.
In a recent interview on Observer Lovell expressed deep appreciation for the confidence the community has shown in him.
“I’ve had phone calls from the constituency, from other places in Antigua, and from the diaspora,” Lovell said, noting that the outpouring of support had been “overwhelming.”
He added, “I felt as though I had a duty to at least give this thing some very serious thought.”
Despite the strong encouragement, Lovell revealed that after careful consideration, he has decided not to run in the All Saints West constituency.
He emphasized that his role now is to support the UPP’s selected candidate for the area. “My role is really to support whomever the party selects for that constituency, to give my full support, and to continue to play my role—not as someone who’s on the field of play actively, but as a coach, mentor, and cheerleader.”
Lovell reaffirmed his commitment to the UPP and the people of Antigua and Barbuda, stating that while he is stepping back from active participation as a candidate, he remains fully engaged in a supportive capacity. “I’m not walking away,” he said, “but I believe my time right now would be better served as someone who is supporting rather than being actually out there.”
As the UPP prepares for the next election, Lovell’s decision signals a shift in his political involvement, focusing on mentorship and guidance rather than direct competition.
The big question now is who the UPP will select to represent the All Saints West constituency, as Lovell takes on a new role in shaping the party’s future.

This is called maturity. No ego, just honesty. Although he believes his time has passed by, the new generation of leaders need to have the same humility.
his time has LONGGGGGG PASSED! It should have never even began. he is not cut out for politics hence his DISMAL TRACK-RECORD!!! then again his trackrecord as a lawyer …………
It is nothing short of amusing to hear the asanine comments from the Labourites.
Indeed, Harold Lovell did suggest mentioning and support, but somewhere there I heard,”For now.” Nothing definitive.
The DAWG looks upon this with no favor because he can never possess the class, demeanor and eloquence of Harold Lovell.
Spent force,@Giles? The man only created and will instruct a course at a very prestigious university. All the Browne DAWG has done is lie about degree and being top student which no one can verify.
As for worst finance minister, Harold Lovell steered us through a financial crisis that the Labourites want to deny. What did Gaston Browne do? After showcasing in parliament about fastest growing economy, Covid-19 landed on March 13,2020 and the country was broke, forced to open its borders when they should have been closed. And you know what the dunce said? “We have to live and work with Covid-19. The man’s a JOKE. And you Laborites would dare compare this abject failure with Lovell?
Oh well. You have shown your inability to draw rational conclusions and simply sling mud and resort to dirty tactics to prop up the botox-faced dictator.
