Happy International Men’s Day 2024!
This year, the theme for International Men’s Day is “Positive Male Role Models,” and I couldn’t think of a more fitting theme to celebrate the incredible men in our lives and communities who inspire us every day.
Today, we take this opportunity to recognize the countless men who embody strength, security, and compassion—not just as fathers, but as role models in various capacities. In St. John’s Rural South, many men contribute selflessly to building a strong support system for their families and the wider community. They are dependable figures who uplift those around them, often doing so without seeking recognition.
My father, like many others in our community, may not have made headlines with grand gestures, but it’s the small acts of kindness and support that leave a lasting impact. I can’t count how many young men have come to me to express gratitude for the positive influence he has been in their lives. This spirit of mentorship and support can be seen throughout our community, creating a powerful network of positive role models.
I would also like to acknowledge influential leaders such as the Honorable Doctor Winston Baldwin Spencer, who has served as a father figure to many in our nation, inspiring young people in Antigua and Barbuda with his dedication and vision. Moreover, Sir Vivian Richards remains an iconic role model—approachable and relatable—showing young men and women alike what it means to be a positive force in the community.
To all the men out there—your hard work and commitment do not go unnoticed. On this International Men’s Day, I want you to know how proud I am of you and how proud the entire community of St. John’s Rural South is of all that you have done, all that you are doing, and all that you will continue to do.
Let’s take this moment to celebrate and uplift the men in our community. Together, we can inspire future generations and reinforce the values of positivity, strength, and responsibility.

Is that person on your cover a man? How can you represent international Men’s Day with a female? I’m perplexed & confused. Please enlighten me.
@Coming Down, I was thinking the same thing. Why a picture of a woman?
She wouldnt rest until she BADPLAY GLADYS POTTER but she have a shock waiting fu she libba
What’s wrong with her eyes? Why she hugging herself so hard and rough. Looks like she missing a hard hat and some old time boxer shorts with the slit and square crotch opening space.
Mens Day speeches will not get ppl to vote for you clown 🙄
@Coming Down. How can the person shown on the picture be a man? Surely a lady with woman attire, make up including lipstick, long nails, earrings etc. Our best bet and first reaction is that it is a photo of the author of the article Ms. Jermaine N. Edwards. If she decided to put her photo in an article recognizing and praising the gentlemen of her community she mentions, so be it lol. (It’s her time to shine!). It’s a great initiative and a good article that ANR opted to publish. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌
Lipstick? Weave? Nails? Is women alone use these things?? There are TRANSGENDER AND HOMOSEXUALS in society
Antiguan people are so ignorant, International men’s day? This dumpy place has no men of merit they all suck and don’t pay child support or take care of their kids, that’s why this country is so backwards.
Well it seems like Jermaine wants to condone the “baby daddy syndrome”. Now a she a de real joke
There seems to be a day for everything in this world.I am a MAN,born a MAN.I DO NOT NEED ANYONE TO TELL ME.TODAY IS MY DAY.I am going to create a DIARRHEA DAY. THAT DAY WOULD DO MANY VERY WELL HEALTH WISE.LOL
