Sir Robin Yearwood entered Parliament this morning for a special sitting commemorating his 50th anniversary as a Member of Parliament.
He was first elected on February 18, 1976, representing the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party under the leadership of Vere Cornwall Bird, as the party returned to office following its 1971 defeat.
Sir Robin has retained his seat in every general election since, becoming the longest-serving elected parliamentarian in the Caribbean and the wider Commonwealth.

Congratulations Sir Robin.
50 years and Willikies has absolutely NOTHING it can pride itself on.
Something says you would have enjoyed it more if you felt you had really earned it, and the nation would honour you (and not only just your party members) if they felt you really earned all the fuss that he would shortly be making of you.
He is not doing this for you because he cares for you. You know him long enough to see it is all about him, and what mileage he would get from making you a national exhibit. If you doubt this, remember your peer Lester.
When he held your hands and feet and physically lifted, well dragged, you to this finish line, pity surfaced rather than adulation. It is like a marathon runner who took all the shortcuts and short alleys to reached the tape first at the finish line, but did not understand why his fellow competitors did not rush to congratulate him.
You are going to enjoy all the praise force on you but your conscience, which will make you question yourself about what have you really done for your people after 50 years in power, is going to pull painful breaths from his body.
You couldn’t put it any clearer than that.look where Antigua and Barbuda has come to under ALP
Nobody should be in that position for 50 years. Madness.
