REAL NEWS – Some employees of the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) are said to be anxious about receiving their pay cheques at the end of this week since the agency’s computer system has been hacked.
Sources say the billing department, specifically, has been thrown into disarray, with customers being unable to make their online payments due to the cyber-attack on the system.
If payments cannot be received, a staff member says, he fears the Authority might not be in the financial position to meet this week’s payroll.
Meanwhile, one customer tells our Newsroom that he understands the Authority’s system was infiltrated by hackers after certain work was outsourced to an overseas company.
However, REAL News was unable to confirm this allegation up to press time, but it will continue to investigate and report on this story.

“… the Authority’s system was infiltrated by hackers after certain work was OUTSOURCED to an overseas company.”
Haven’t we learned a damn thing from our CIP fiasco, after outsourcing to a third party?
This CAN always lead to fraudulent practices if proper security measures are not in place.
Why couldn’t this work take place here in Antigua?
This penny-pinching to save money is costing us very dearly – when will we learn?
WHO’S IN CHARGE OF THE COUNTRY?!?!
We send our young people to study cyber security etc, then we don’t use them. Use our children! Let them get any necessary training and give them the chance to develop the country. Else, continue to pay the price of our love for foreign.
This is what happened when we don’t have faith in our own. The political directorate is afraid of our own. Customs… outsourced. Port… outsourced
Why outsource? Do we not have the competence here to do the work? Unemployment is off the chains and getting worse everyday with the government clueless as ever. There are youths aplenty here out of work. Come on! If this is accurate, what is the extent of the damage? There are way too many secrets in Antigua and Barbuda.
Wa happen they couldn’t give tenman the job to provide “online solutions” since his government is in power?
for non-payment since may 2023… Fact: all payments were proven to be paid electronically.
Last month my CARD was hacked with 3 withdrawals labeled Telecom after I paid my bills online via the APUA App. My card has been canceled and replaced, and I have since registered online with my bank to pay my utilities bills directly from my account. Within 2 days my payments were updated on my utilities accounts. Please use the APUA only for checking bills and monitoring payments made via online banking or ATM.
