SOURCE: NEWROOM – A 30-year-old man of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, died on Friday night after he reportedly lost control of his car in the vicinity of the Infectious Diseases Hospital and collided with a concrete median.
Dead is Rabindra Surujdin of Block 8 Mon Repos, ECD, a Manager of the Institute of Health Science Education, under the Ministry of Health.
According to the Guyana Police Force, 33-year-old Sophia MacDougal, the man’s wife, is a patient in the intensive care unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital Incorporation (GPHC), suffering from head injuries.
It was reported that at about 22:30 hrs on Friday, Surujdin was driving motorcar #PAE 1926, on the Rupert Craig Highway heading east along the northern carriageway when he crashed.
The Police report noted that the car spun out of control and subsequently collided with a concrete culvert on the northern side of the road before it submerged in a nearby drain.
Public spirited persons immediately went to the aid of the couple and took them out of the vehicle.
The couple was in an unconscious state when an ambulance from GPHC arrived at the scene.
Surujdin was examined and later pronounced dead by Dr. Doerga while his wife was transported to the hospital by Emergency Medical Technicians.
According to a Facebook post made by a relative, the woman is in critical condition.
The hospital also made a condolence post and said Surujdin was a pleasant and willing person and he “made any project he was a part of ab enjoyable and easier experience for others.”
“This is a great loss for our institution, our country and humanity,” the GPHC said.
